The ASA National Championships – 2010, Ponds Forge, Sheffield This year is seeing a significant increase in the number of national times being gained by our swimmers. NQTs so far are as follows:
The ASA National Championships – 2009, Ponds Forge, Sheffield Youth Wandsworth Swimming Club had 3 swimmers at the National Youth Championships, Paige Kern (14), Katherine Pyne (14) ("KP") and Sophie Woodward-Fisher (17). They swam on form and considering the nerves that the three girls had they did exceptionally well. Paige had two swims in the first day; 100 free, where she was 0.08 below her PB, and the 200 backstroke where she improved on her pb with a time of 2.23.36 coming 20th in the 14/15 yr age group. On Wednesday KP and Paige both swam exceptionally well in the 100 backstroke. KP swam first in a time of 1.09.69 with Paige swimming two heats later in a time of 1.08.03 both girls were just outside their PBs. On the final day of swimming Sophie and Paige swam in the sprint event both having got up early for the warm up! Paige was in first this time and swam a fantastic 27.85 making the semi final for the 14/15 yr age group where she swam another PB by 0.01 and Sophie swam just outside her PB in a time of 28.38. A big well done to all who swam at the Nationals this year. It was great to have 6 swimmers there; a small WSC team. We look forward to making this team larger by getting even more of you to the Nationals in 2010! Age Group For Katie Mackenzie (12), Georgina Rendell (13) and Tim Robinson (13) it was their first experience of the Age Group Nationals held at Ponds Forge Sheffield but all three ‘rose’ to the occasion! Georgina qualified for 2 events, 200m and 100m backstroke, and swam particularly well in the 200m where she knocked nearly 2 secs off her PB swimming a time of 2.32.18. Tim’s race was the 800m and he managed to knock off nearly 10 secs from his previous PB in a time of 9.16.83. He was seeded 26th but his great swim soared this to 17th. Katie swam in the 100m breaststroke and swam a magnificent preliminary round in 1.19.99 (nearly a 2 sec PB) which qualified her for the final! A very nervous, excited, row of spectators watched Katie swim in a magnificent time of 1.19.32 making her 10th overall. A very well done to all 3 swimmers and a big ‘thank you’ to Nigel Rendell who acted as ‘chaperone’.
Also a huge thank you to all WSC coaches for their hard work and enthusiasm in helping swimmers achieve such tremendous success. |
