Club Championships – session 1 and 2 update

Well done to all swimmers who competed in the first 2 sessions of our Club Championships last Saturday 21 September at JAGs Sports Centre , Dulwich .
It was absolutely fantastic to see swimmers from every squad and training pathway racing in a wide variety of events starting with the 25m of all strokes for our youngest participants aged 8 years & under and 400 IM for the more experienced ones and finishing with the 100m freestyle for all swimmers aged 9 years and over .
There were some fast swims , outstanding performances , tons of PBs as well as new times achieved for further meets in the season .
Four new Club Records were set :
Two by Edward Henwood ( 15 years ) in the 50 and 200 butterfly events in times of 26.56 and 2.15.21 respectively
One by Oliver Cunningham ( 17 & Over ) in 50 backstroke in a time of 27.78
One by Samuel Liau ( 12 years ) in 50 backstroke in a time of 32.56
What a start to the new season !
A massive thank you to the army of volunteers , marshals , both technical officials and non- technical support for devoting their Saturday to help with the smooth running of the competition .
We could not have done it without you .
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the second round on Sunday 20 October as well as the 800m event and NUEL meet before that .

WSC Summer Meet – results update

On the weekend of 1st and 2nd June we held for the second year running our own meet – Wandsworth SC Summer Meet – at K2 Leisure Centre , Crawley .
Over 100 swimmers across our training squads ranging from Development to Performance took part in this fantastic event !
There were some outstanding performances and lots of new PB’s have been achieved by so many swimmers – what an excellent way to celebrate everyone’s swimming journeys .

We won 143 medals in total : 48 GOLD – 44 SILVER – 51 BRONZE !
Our multiple – winning 5 medals or more – winners were :
Lena Jovanovic : 11 gold – 1 silver
Edward Henwood : 6 gold – 1 silver – 1 bronze
Alessandro Yu Spagnolo : 5 gold – 3 silver
Can Tetik : 4 gold – 3 silver – 1 bronze
Timothy Gussago : 2 gold – 4 silver
Olivia Hill : 2 gold – 2 silver – 1 bronze
Aleksandar Filyov : 2 gold – 2 silver – 1 bronze
Emma Gordon : 1 gold – 3 silver – 3 bronze
Bastiano Atti : 1 gold – 3 silver – 2 bronze
Benjamin Gussago : 1 gold – 1 silver – 3 bronze
Pietro Marzeglia : 1 gold – 1 silver – 3 bronze

Well done to all swimmers – your hard work and commitment are paying off so let’s keep it going for the rest of the season .

Eight new Club Records and Five Gold medals – London Summer Championships – 2nd weekend update

Wandsworth SC swimmers put up an outstanding overall performance at the 2nd and final weekend of this year’s London Summer Championships held at London Aquatic Centre 4 – 6 May .
Eight new Club Records were set and seven medals including five golds won by our small but extremely strong team .

GOLD Medals :
Astrid Facius ( 15 years ) in 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke events – the latter in a new Club Record time of 1.05.30
Sam Liau ( 12 years ) in 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke events – both in new Club Records times of 28.83 and 32.10 respectively
Edward Henwood ( 15 years ) in 100 butterfly in a new Club Record time of 59.59

SILVER :
Max Sochovsky ( 15 years ) – in 200 backstroke in a new Club Record time of 2.17.39

BRONZE :
Edward Henwood ( 15 years ) – in 200 and 50 backstroke events – the latter in a new Club Record time of 29.52

Two more Club Records were set by the following swimmers :
Oliver Cunningham ( 17 & over ) in 200 backstroke in a time of 2.11.81
Edward Henwood ( 15 years ) in 100 backstroke in a time of 1.03.95

The finalists were :
George Harvey ( 16 years ) – 50 and 200 backstroke
Edward Henwood ( 15 years ) – 100 backstroke , 50 and 200 freestyle
Max Sochovsky ( 15 years ) – 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle
Oliver Cunningham ( 17 & over ) – all backstroke events
Astrid Facius ( 15 years ) – 50 breaststroke

Swim England London Summer Championships 2024 – successful 1st weekend !

Our swimmers got off to a very good start to London Summer Championships held last weekend 27 / 28 April at London Aquatic Centre , Stratford by winning 5 medals and breaking one Club Record .
The medallists were :
Edward Henwood ( 15 years age group ) – double London Champion – gold in 100 freestyle ( in a time of 57.35 ; 57.18 in the heats ) and 200 butterfly ( in a time of 2.14.63 ) events as well as silver in 50 butterfly ( in a time of 27.57 ; 27.28 in the heats )
Astrid Facius ( 15 years age group ) – Gold in 50 backstroke in a new Club Record time of 30.56
Max Sochovsky ( 15 years age group ) – Bronze in 400 freestyle in a time of 4.21.80
Well done to our youngest Regional qualifiers – Lena Jovanovic and Evan Sochovsky – for putting great performances at the regional level with Evan making a final in a 50 backstroke event .
Huge congratulations to our 14 – 16 years age group 4 x 200 freestyle relay – Max Sochovsky ( 15 ) , George Harvey ( 16 ), Alex Filyov ( 15 ) and Edward Henwood ( 15 ) for finishing in a very respectable 5th place out of 22 teams .

Let’s keep up the great work !!!
We are looking forward to more fast racing over the coming weekend 4 – 6 May .

More Club Records at NUEL National Qualifier meet

Well done to all our swimmers who endured two long days of racing at London Aquatic Centre at the NUEL National Qualifier meet held last weekend 23/24 May .

Special recognition must go to Oliver Cunningham who was not only the fastest 200 backstroke swimmer of the whole meet in a time of 2.12.46 but also broke the Club Record in the 17 & over age group in the 100 backstroke event in a time of 1.01.77 !

Huge congratulations to George Harvey who set a new Club Record in the 15 years age group 50m backstroke event in a time of 30.67.
We are making great progress ahead of the Regional and National Championships !
