Officials

Officials are an integral part of competitive swimming and are essential in helping the club run and attend competitive events throughout the year. Without them, meets cannot be licensed and swimmers' times will not be officially recognised. It will often be a condition of the meets we enter as a club that we must provide a certain number of officials in order to participate.

As a club, we therefore recruit and train a number of officials. There are several grades of licensed officials, ranging from timekeeper to referee. More information on the levels and requirements can be found on the British Swimming website.

The training is a combination of theory and practical experience where you will be mentored by fully qualified officials. If you would like to join our existing team of officials, please get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you. It really does make a difference for our swimmers and, from experience, those who sign up find it a rewarding way to spend time at meets.

Other helping roles

We rely on parent volunteers and are so grateful for the help we receive. Each event we hold or attend requires support and WSC always hosts an impressive group of volunteers from poolside helpers through to licensed officials of time-keepers and judges. We are always looking for support so please get in touch if you’re able to help, whether it be on the odd occasion or if you’d like to throw yourself in at the deep end! Don’t be shy, we’ll guide you through.
